Today the Nyo Heritage Initiative signed the scholarship agreement with our first scholar of our Bhutan Heritage Scholarship Program under the initiative. Mr. Dhendup Tshewang a Dy. Executive Engineer with the Division for Conservation of Heritage Sites, Department of Culture, Ministry of Home and Culture Affairs will study MA in Cultural Heritage Studies for two years at Central European University (CEU) in Austria. The scholarship is funded by ASIA and CEU, which is also the host institution.
Aum Nagtsho, the Director of the Department of Culture after signing the agreement standing as the organisational guarantor for the scholar offered appreciation for the scholarship support to the department, the first kind of collaboration between the government organisation and religious organisation.
Representing the funding partners, our executive member Sonam Choden expressed happiness for the collaboration and extended our willingness to work together in furthering similar collaboration in preservation and promotion of culture and heritage.
The scholarship program was launched in 2019 after signing an MoU with the international partner organisations and the Department of Culture, Ministry of Home and Culture Affairs aimed at building professional capacity with academic skills in culture and heritage for the employees of the Department.
The scholar which was suppose to have began his study in 2020 was delayed by global COVID-19 crisis to begin his study from fall this year (2021).
